I browsed awesome-selfhosted looking for a self-hosted note-taking app to get away from Big Corporations’ cloud-syncing note apps (Apple, Google, and Co.), and I stumbled upon this gem. I needed something that offered privacy and flexibility, as I like to have full control over my data. Additionally, I wanted a solution that could integrate into my broader self-hosted setup, with easy synchronization across multiple devices without relying on third-party services.
What I love most about SilverBullet is its perfect balance of simplicity and customizability. It’s straightforward to use, with a clean interface that doesn’t overwhelm you with unnecessary features, but it still offers powerful customization options for those who want more control over their setup. The ability to extend its functionality with custom scripts, commands and styles has been a huge plus for my use cases, whether it’s for organizing my notes, automating certain tasks, or making the interface truly my own. It’s exactly the kind of tool I’ve been looking for.
I know this is a bit of an older post, but I saw this thread was linked from the Mastodon so I thought you might still be curious.
I’m currently a pretty dedicated Obsidian user and I saw a post in the Obsidian Reddit asking about alternative apps. Someone mentioned SilverBullet in the comments there, I looked it up, and it immediately blew my mind! I haven’t actually made the switch just yet, but I think it’s only a matter of time…
I found it in a web search when I was looking for a replacement for Logseq unsuccessfully until I found you folksl
I built bookstack which is awesome but overkill for my needs. So searched via duckduckgo for alternatives and settled on sivlerbullet.
The primary features outside of relative simplicity to bookstack is ease of importing existing markdown, darkmode, and vim keys. In a perfect world, I could specify my prefered external editor but I realize it would add a lot of unneeded complexity.
Loving silverbullet!
Found through awesome selfhosted site… was searching for notes and tasks as I want something private and did not like to do the sync with obsidian or Joplin… I have tried almost most of the notes to self host, but this suited my purpose… now I have started spending more time with sb Yet to learn the space lua but otherwise thanks for the awesome SB.
