Link and navigate between spaces in Multispace

v2.10 included multispace and v2.11 included SSO. Although I have been using SB for more than a year (and haven't updated in a long while) I am really excited for the new features.

Coming initially from OneNote, I tend to look at spaces as Notebooks. I like to split up my notes depending on the category of work, just to keep things sepate.

Space 1: Personal
Space 2: Work - Main
Space 3: Work - Customer 1
Space 3: Work - Customer 2
Space 4: Hobby

Linking between spaces

One thing I have some difficulty with is if there is any possibility to link between spaces, specially with autocomplete of links.
As there are many overlaps between my personal space and work space. I may have written up some notes on how to setup something at work, and I want to keep this organised in the work space, but I want to link to this page in my personal space.

so, Space 2 has page Docker, and I want to link to this page from Space 1 page Setup Computer. From what I can see all links are relative to the space root?

Navigating between spaces

Using the example above, I may have 3 notebooks for work, then it would be useful to have a list of all of the spaces I have access to (both RO and RW), and be able to switch betwen them all.

I think in the Tree picker, we could have another icon for spaces. (e.g. a notebook icon left of All icon)

yeah, there's no support for cross-linking of pages now (unless you put in real full URLs of course, which would work). I'd have to think about the implications of doing that, permission wise, what the syntax should be. Open to ideas.

By the way, until recently (and still largely) I've settled on using 1 "giant" space for everything, in which case you wouldn't have this problem. Any reason why you want to go very granular like you have?

There are multiple reasons.

Going back to the analogy of notebook, I do not want to mix my work notes with my personal notes, specially not between different customers/projects).
Each "notebook" is its' own folder on disk with a script auto-committing to git every 5 minutes, then each notebook is backed up to its' own git repo. If I need to share notes with someone else external, I can just share that repo with them (since the content is only MD files).

Each git repo can be pushed to different backends. Personal one in GitHub (or rather selfhosted GIT), work ones in GitHub Enterprise, customer one in the customers GitHub Enterprise, etc.

The other reason is to have shared notes between family members. I have one notebook that is common within the whole family, but another one that is only between me and my wife.

The way I have solved it for now (since I am still on v2.4  I have to catch up on many updats) is:

  • every user has their own instance of SB, behind a reverse proxy with SSO, that servers the "correct" instance for the authenticated user
  • every instance has the correct folders mounted (docker volume mounts) as required
  • each notebook becomes it's own folder in the space root
  • all instances share a common config/library folder, however only mine (admin is RW, all other instances have this as RO)
